Go All-Digital

Supporting the global environment we supply all software as digital downloads only. How can you participate?

We all can be part of the solution. Digital downloads are the "green" answer to demanding fewer resources for your computer's needs. What you get is software with an environmental footprint of zero while still staying up-to-date.

Digital downloads are one part of the larger trend in making our lives - both professional and personal - cleaner, more efficient, and better. Continue reading to see what else you can do to improve your green computing.

Limit screen-saver use. A screen saver does not save energy. In fact, more often than not, a screen saver not only will draw power for the monitor, but also will keep the CPU from shutting down. Instead, set your computer to turn off the monitor first, then go into standby mode after a longer period of inactivity.

Disconnect your Virtual Private Network (VPN) when not actively using your corporate network. Being connected may limit your system's ability to enter standby mode.

Many popular computer games and other third party software packages that run in the background will not allow the computer to go to sleep - even if they are paused or the active window is minimized.

Some web sites or pages that have active banners and or animated advertisements will not allow the computer to sleep on its own and must be closed, or the computer put manually into a sleep state.

Enabled power management to place your monitor, hard drives and computer into a low-power "sleep" mode after a period of inactivity.

Monitor/display sleep: Turn off after 15 minutes or less

Turn off hard drives/hard disk sleep: 15 minutes or less

System standby/sleep: After 30 minutes or less

Advanced users may wish to establish multiple power schemes to address different usage models. For example, you can create a power scheme for playing music CDs that shuts off your hard drive and monitor immediately, but never puts your system into standby mode.

To further reduce power consumption, turn off computing and peripheral devices that are not being used or being used for an extended period of time such as overnight.

Plug all your electronics into one surge protector, so you can easily switch them all off when you leave the room or go to sleep. Most power supplies (such as your cell phone charger) continue to draw power and generate heat even when not attached to a device.

System Requirements:
  • DiskWarrior 4 supports any locally connected Mac OS Standard (HFS) or Mac OS Extended (HFS Plus) disk including Fusion Drives, RAID volumes, journaled disks, case-sensitive disks, FileVaults, Time Machine backups and iPods.
  • Startup Requirements
  • DiskWarrior now ships on DVD instead of CD. Starting up from the DiskWarrior DVD requires a PowerPC G4 867 MHz Mac or better (such as a PowerPC G5 or Intel Mac) with built-in DVD drive and a minimum 512 MB RAM. The computer must also have the latest firmware updates installed.
  • Note: The current DiskWarrior DVD cannot start up the new MacBook Pros introduced June 11, 2012. An updated disc that will also start up these recent Mac models will be released as soon as Apple, Inc. releases new startup files to Alsoft, Inc. and other developers. Some older iMacs with wireless keyboards have timing issues when starting up from any DVD. Instead of pressing the "C" key immediately upon start up, wait for the startup chime and then press the "Option" key. This will bring up the Startup Manager which will allow you to choose the DVD as a startup disk. If your wireless mouse is not working in the Startup Manager, use the arrow keys to choose the DVD, then press the "Return" key to continue starting up.
  • Installation Requirements To install, you must be started from Mac OS X 10.3.9 through 10.8 with at least 512 MB RAM. More RAM may be required for large directories. DiskWarrior 4 version 4.4 is completely compatible with Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Alsoft recommends that you don't run DiskWarrior 4 version 4.0 while started from Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, 10.6 Snow Leopard, 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion. Alsoft also recommends that you don't run DiskWarrior 4 version 4.1 while started from 10.6 Snow Leopard, 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion.
  • Additional Requirements
  • If you plan to rebuild the directory on your startup disk, you need to start up from another disk capable of starting up in Mac OS X 10.3.9 through 10.8, such as the DiskWarrior DVD. DiskWarrior cannot be run while started up from the Apple Mac OS X install DVD.
  • If you plan to rebuild a Fusion Drive, you'll need to run DiskWarrior while started from OS X 10.8.2 or later.
  • If you plan to rebuild a disk that is encrypted with FileVault 2, you'll need to run DiskWarrior while started from OS X 10.7 or 10.8. Alternatively, you can decrypt the disk then run DiskWarrior.
  • If you want or need to run DiskWarrior 4 version 4.4 from Mac OS X 10.4 or earlier, there are two features of DiskWarrior that are not available for a Mac OS X 10.5 through 10.8 startup disk. First, you cannot repair the permissions of a Mac OS X 10.5 through 10.8 startup disk. Second, you cannot rebuild a FileVault that was created under Mac OS X 10.5 through 10.8. You will be able to rebuild a FileVault that was created on a Mac OS X 10.4 startup disk that was later upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5 through 10.8. Your DiskWarrior DVD may start up in Mac OS X 10.4 and would therefore have these features disabled for a Mac OS X 10.5 through 10.8 startup disk. See the DiskWarrior manual for additional procedures to rebuild the startup disk.
  • If you want or need to run DiskWarrior from Mac OS X 10.6 through 10.8, there is a feature of DiskWarrior that is not available for a Mac OS X 10.5 or earlier startup disk. Specifically, you cannot repair the permissions of a Mac OS X 10.5 or earlier startup disk. Your DiskWarrior disc may start up in Mac OS X 10.6 and would therefore have this feature disabled for a Mac OS X 10.5 or earlier startup disk. See the DiskWarrior manual for additional procedures to rebuild the startup disk.
  • While started from the DiskWarrior DVD, you cannot repair the permissions of a Mac OS X 10.5 through 10.8 startup disk.
  • If you wish to enable DiskWarrior's automatic hardware monitoring, you will need to install the DiskWarrior application on your Mac OS computer. To install the DiskWarrior application see the install requirements above. Installing DiskWarrior is not required to run the application from the DiskWarrior DVD to rebuild a disk directory.

Alsoft DiskWarrior 4
DiskWarrior is a utility program designed from the ground up with a totally different approach to preventing and resolving directory damage which is the leading cause of Mac instability.

DiskWarrior resolves existing disk damage by rebuilding your disk directory using data recovered from the original directory, thereby recovering files and folders that you thought were lost. The directories DiskWarrior creates are also optimized for maximum directory performance.

DiskWarrior is not a disk repair program in the conventional sense. It does not attempt to solve all of the possible problems that can occur with a disk. It specializes in eliminating directory errors - the most common problems Mac OS users have with their disks.

DiskWarrior rebuilds your disk directories making them error-free, eliminating any problems the errors would have caused, and recovering lost files.

It fixes any problem with master directory blocks and alternate master directory blocks (HFS), volume headers and alternate volume headers (HFS Plus), volume bitmaps, catalog trees, and extents trees.

This approach has a significant advantage that the others overlook. Other products attempt to repair your directory one step at a time, ignoring the big picture of what is truly wrong with your directory, and risking file information that could be saved. Too often, they will incorrectly begin to "repair" your directory, and then give up when they realize that they have modified the directory to an irreparable state. At Alsoft, we know that the most important thing when you are attempting to repair your disks is getting your data back. That's why the first thing DiskWarrior checks is your directory data, and that's what it uses to create a replacement directory. DiskWarrior continues its rebuild operations unless no directory data can be found.

Directory damage isn't the only threat to your data. A physical hardware malfunction can cause intermittent loss of access to any data on the drive. If the malfunction is serious enough, the only way to retrieve the data on the drive is through an expensive data recovery service. DiskWarrior can be configured to automatically check drives for possible drive malfunction, giving you the chance to back up your data before a drive completely fails. The hardware monitoring can also be run manually if you suspect a drive malfunction.

Alsoft has been making disk utilities for the Mac over 20 years. Our disk optimization utilities have always chosen the safety and security of your data over anything else, and have been able to detect and report directory errors no other program can (the others obviously couldn't fix the problems they couldn't even find). That knowledge has been put into DiskWarrior to give you the only tool that can eliminate all directory problems and recover lost files and folders! And, as an added bonus, the directory DiskWarrior creates is optimized for maximum speed when accessing your files!

DiskWarrior recovers your files including your photos, music and videos DiskWarrior is the safest, most technologically advanced, most powerful utility to eliminate directory damage and recover your files, folders and documents. DiskWarrior is so advanced it can even recover your data from a failing hard drive. Yet all that power is hidden behind one button.
DiskWarrior cures those cryptic errors reported by Disk Utility Messages from your Mac such as "Invalid node structure" and "Keys out of order" may seem mysterious or even scary but DiskWarrior fixes these problems and many, many more.
DiskWarrior uses a different approach to disk directory repair than other programs DiskWarrior is not a disk repair program in the conventional sense. Instead of patching the original directory, it uses a patent-pending technology to quickly build a new replacement directory using data recovered from the original directory, thereby recovering files, folders and documents that you thought were lost and that no other program could recover.
DiskWarrior is the only product that finds all of your data Its patent-pending method always results in a perfectly rebuilt directory without any errors and that contains all of your file and folder data.

Great product, great price. Took 3 or 4 goes at installing, but that was mostly user error on my part. I have been using it since and it works just fine. I've saved you to "My Favourites" and will recommend and use you again soon. Thank you Dave Corcoran
